John L. D’Angelo, Jr. was named Indiana University Vice President for Capital Planning and Facilities in June 2025. In this position, he serves as IU’s chief capital, facilities, planning, and real estate officer overseeing all facility-related operations, acquisitions, and capital projects, as well as maintaining responsibility for the physical infrastructure and development of IU’s campuses – including over 800 buildings with a value of over $10 billion.
John’s teams oversee the planning, design, construction, and activation of numerous major capital and renovation projects. His portfolio also includes a team of skilled trades professionals that operate and maintain the campus and building systems that keep our campuses both beautiful and safe.
D’Angelo most recently served as assistant vice president for facilities operations at the University of Chicago, a role he held since April 2019. He also previously held senior facilities positions with Northwestern University, New York Presbyterian Hospitals, and the Cleveland Clinic, after serving in similar built-environment leadership roles in the United States Navy for two decades.
Education
D’Angelo (MS, PE, CHFM, CHEP, CMVP) holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Maryland and a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical & astronautical engineering from Purdue University. He is a licensed professional mechanical engineer in multiple states.
