If you’ve ever wondered how decarbonization projects are developed, prioritized, and constructed at IU, join IU Sustainability for a weekly workshop series taking a deep dive into each of the major decarbonization categories described in the IU Climate Action Plan. Each of the weekly discussion-based learning workshops are open to all IU students, faculty, and staff, and will be held starting on Friday, September 6th.
The weekly workshops are held in person at the Indianapolis and Bloomington campuses and online for the regional campuses:
- IU Indianapolis: 9:30-11 AM, University Library, Room 1116 | REGISTER
- IU Bloomington: 1-2:30 PM, Cedar Hall, Room 102 | REGISTER
- Regional Campuses: 3-4:30 PM, Zoom | REGISTER
The topics for the workshops are as listed below, with their applicability to the IU Climate Action Plan in parenthesis.
- September 6 – EV Charging & Car Replacements (Infrastructure)
- September 13 – LED Lighting Conversions (Infrastructure - Energy Conservation Measures, ECMs)
- September 20 – ECMs in Laboratory Spaces (Infrastructure – ECMs)
- September 27 – Building walks: LED Lighting Conversion Inventories (ECMs in Practice)
- October 4 – Building Controls & Power Down (Infrastructure – ECMs)
- October 18 – Electric Utilities in Indiana (Utility Grid)
- November 1 – Solar (Renewable Energy)
- November 15 – Central Heating Plant Decarbonization (Renewable Energy)
- November 22 – Campus Infrastructure Tours (BL – Central Heating Plant, IN – To Be Determined)
- December 6 – What’s next: Student Support of CAP (Implementation – Adopt Centralized Reporting)
- December 13 – Close Out Feedback Session

Participants have the option of attending the workshops with a view to earning an E-Badge. E-Badge requirements are:
- Attend 6 of the 8 sessions from Sept 6-Nov 15
- Complete the Inventory assignment (either with the group or independently)
- Score 80% on a 10-question end-of-series quiz
- Registrants will be added to a Canvas course for the purposes of tracking attendance, submitting the assignment, and taking the quiz.
Pursuit of the E-Badge is not necessary for attendance of the workshop series.
